Institute of Agricultural and Animal Science at Tribhuvan University

The Institute of Agricultural and Animal Science, which is now under Tribhuvan University has an interesting history behind it. It crossed barriers and evolved over time due to its earlier existence in the form of a school of agriculture under the ministry of agriculture in 1957. The aim of the school at that time was to train junior technical assistants in agriculture. However, later in the year 1968, it was upgraded to the college of agriculture and within the college a 2 year intermediate of agricultural science began.

To develop further, in 1972 it gained the status of the institute of agricultural and animal science and was taken under the Tribhuvan University. It is interesting to note that after gaining status, the institute saw its own buildings and facilities. Before this period the institute was being operated at Pulchok in Kathmandu as "Jagdamba Bhawan”. In 1974 it was relocated to its present site at Rampur in Chitwan district, where it was conceived and laid down.

Presently, the institute has its main campus at Rampur with its sister campuses, Lamjung Campus and Paklihawa Campus. The Lamjung campus is located at Sundar Bazar in Lamjung District while the Pakilhawa is situated at Bhairahawa in Rupandehi District.
